Welcome to the archive of my artistic and civic work. Here you will find
most of my activities since 2015, when I first tried to document and develop
their presentation beyond ephemeral, anonymous interventions in public
space.

dnlm is alias of Danilo Milovanović (1992, B&H), an interdisciplinary artist and
curator based in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

statement

My practice, especially in the early stages, is based mainly on guerrilla interventions in urban spaces and exploring the status of public spaces through DIY approaches. Sometimes it involves more complex ideas, more often just simple in-situ gestures. Creating in the conditions and within the infrastructure that is given on the spot, mostly outside the comfort zone, largely determines the final result of the work.

Works that arise instinctively, as a quick response to a given reality, even if they do not have the same weight as well-considered projects, are my greatest joy. This way of creating preserves the spontaneity and lightness of the work, without being burdened by the logic of constant progress, as dictated by the spirit of our time. It is not about creating a spectacle, nor about utopian hopes for great social changes driven by art. It is about creating within space/time/context specific frameworks, as a way of life that celebrates active citizens and reactive social cells. and yes, humor and fun! humor is important. fun is important.

Observing and understanding the environment and actively processing current events, both local and global, is often the starting point of my activities. The medium and approach are always defined by ideas that are in many cases related to the production of the city as a distinctly dynamic ecosystem. Material signifiers, cultural canons, established social standards and everyday socio-political dynamics that constantly create and redefine the phenomenon of the city are my primary field of interest.
