As children, we spent our days hanging around the blocks, playing with anything we could play with. After rainy days when we couldn’t kick a ball on the soggy ground, we used the sticky dirt as play material. Each child crafted a tool by peeling a twig and turning it into a flexible stick. We would use our hands to shape the dirt into balls, which were then attached to the top of the stick. When we swung it, the clay ball would fly off and stick to the wall. We played until the wall was visibly covered with hundreds of dots.
Twenty years later, I wanted to recreate the game in a specific area of an abandoned construction site. The movement of the body, the swing of the arm or stick while running, is reminiscent of the movement at a demonstration or a street riot. Covering a concrete wall with clay with the ritual repetition of powerful physical expressions may seem like an environmental gesture or a utopian demonstration against ANTHROPOCENTRISM.
Above all, we can just simply enjoy the work, as such a minimalist graphic trace on the wall was created out of pure fun.
