Undoubtedly, the most recognizable “brand” of the city of Ljubljana is the architecture of Jože Plečnik. In 2021, many of his works in Ljubljana were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Yet one example has remained overlooked — the Bežigrad’s, or “Plečnik’s” Stadium.

While visiting the abandoned stadium, I noticed scattered concrete pillars, which are in a way a hallmark of Plečnik’s architecture. Pillars of the same form also appear in the city center — at the Triple Bridge — where they contribute to the city’s character.

I decided to take the forgotten urban debris on a visit to their famous relatives. The walk was carried out using a shopping cart from the local retail chain Mercator.

Fun fact: among all of Plečnik’s works in Ljubljana, the stadium is the only one in private ownership and has for years been the subject of economic speculation.
