Katowice is a mining town known for its coal production. Asphalt or bitumen is a by-product of coal. The site where the work was created contained traces of working machinery embedded in a layer of bitumen. These traces reminded me of traditional printing techniques, so I used black paint, also made from charcoal pigment, to print floor patterns on the canvas.

The work captures the space in which it was created, while also reflecting the global negative connotation of coal production in light of climate change.
