ROUNDABOUT PARK

Roundabouts are interesting examples of (legally) inaccessible public spaces due to their positioning. But, what if there were something inside the roundabout that was clearly intended for use?

In a time of shrinking public spaces, every freed-up space is valuable, even if it is temporary.

I chose the famous Ljubljana roundabout next to Plečnik's cemetery for my intervention. With the simple gesture of placing two benches and two trash cans inside the roundabout, a new city park was established.

For a very short time, though.

The benches were removed after one day by the security guards guarding the cemetery, while the trash cans remained inside the roundabout for two months.
