Adapted Standards is an installation in the public space of the city of Regensburg. The inspiration for the work came from the fact that Regensburg is a historical trading city and therefore had its own measurements, which were used exclusively by Regensburg merchants. In the center of the city there is a facade with three metal rods, which represent the medieval trading measures that were used there. The measurements therefore represented a medieval cultural standard, which I wanted to adapt to the modern standards that we find in the public space. I used the historical units of measurement Klafter, Elle and Schuh (fathom = 189 cm, ell = 81 cm, foot = 31 cm) as three spatial dimensions - width, height and length and transferred them to standardized pieces of Regensburg city furniture. The installation, consisting of two manipulated benches, two garbage cans and one street lamp, was installed in a frequent public space on Schwanenplatz in Regensburg. Soon after its installation, locals, especially young people, began to gather around the non-standard infrastructure.
