I was invited to an artist residency in Chemnitz, but due to the covid 19 pandemic, I couldn’t go. The purpose of the residency was to create a work based on the public space of the city of Chemnitz. We decided to do the residency remotely.

I got in touch with a few photographers from Chemnitz and asked them to send me different photos of their city. The work was created through the process of urban research of my own surroundings in Ljubljana based on the photos received. I looked for the same motifs and even imitated the photographers in framing, choosing the angle and the like. The work was based on supplementing received photographs with our own, creating diptychs. Each diptych contains one “challenging” photo taken in Chemnitz and one “responding” photo taken in Ljubljana.
The project ultimately consists of 52 photos or 26 pairs.

The work, in a poetic, visual and playful way, illuminates insights into universal laws and traces of global culture that can be felt in seemingly completely different spaces.
