Neža Knez and I were invited to create a work based on an experience of journey for the Always & Forever exhibition at the CentrE for Contemporary Arts in Celje. We debated about the very nature of creation a commissioned work for a specific purpose. Following the example of fast-food delivery people, we decided to deliver the work to the gallery by bicycle.
The main part of the work was performative cycling from Ljubljana to Celje (75 km) on the day of the exhibition opening. The entire trip was broadcasted live on social networks. We recorded the video for the installation during the trip, roughly edited it upon arrival in Celje and delivered it to the gallery at the opening ceremony of the exhibition. We previously prepared an installation in the gallery that includes an exercise bike, a dynamo for energy collection, a midi transformer and a projector. The interactive installati-on was completed with a delivered video. Visitors were required to ride a bicycle in order to turn on the projector and be able to see the footage that had just been created. The opacity of the video was correlated with pedaling power, and the projector was placed behind the bike so that the participant’s shadow became part of the installation.
On the same day, based on what she could see on livestream, exhibition curator Tal Gilad independently wrote a text about the project, which you can find here.
This intermedia work is experimental in nature and primarily questions the constant flow of creation and streaming of information online and in physical space.
