The intervention is another reaction to gentrification processes, which among others include the removal of graffiti, indispensable elements of the urban landscape.

My process begins by mapping all the visual information on the selected walls and redrawing them onto a transparent foil. Then, I paint the wall and apply the same content over the fresh paint using preprepared foil stencils. A lightreflecting pigment is applied over the fresh paint to transfer the stencils. The effect of the intervention is a monochromatic, barely noticeable relief that seems like a neat, clean wall. However, due to the presence of reflective pigment, the graffiti reflect light and are visible in the dark. In this way, I exchange their daytime presence for nighttime. Graffiti thus become part of the night lights landscape, as they can only be seen according to the principle of traffic signaling, in which reflective materials are often used.

By preserving tags and graffiti, I wanted to emphasize their presence in the life of urban spaces, while at the same time reacting to the unifying policies of shaping the city’s appearance.

Inspired by the intervention, a mini series of studio works was created. Based on photographs of several Ljubljana walls, light boxes were created. I digitally cleaned all tags and graffiti from the photographs and placed them in a frame made of old, recycled wood from a local skate park. The light source installed in the box illuminates the contents of the walls, which are not visible on the surface photo.
