OLD HOUSE NO. 3
The mural, which depicts the fairy tale of the writer Ela Peroci (1922–2001) in written and graphic form, was made on the wall in front of the largest squat in the history of Slovenia, the Rog autonomous factory, which was evicted in 2021. The story of the old house no. 3 is a story about squatting.
The house from the fairy tale was abandoned and consequently destined for demolition. Just before the city authorities were about to demolish it, children started playing and hanging out in the house. When they came to demolish it, due to the presence of children, the workers were convinced that it was not the house they were looking for. The children started creating in the house, arranging it and getting attached to it. They brought flowers to the house, ennobled it with energy, and once again prevented the workers from demolishing the house. When the workers came again with the same purpose, the children greeted them and asked for their help, as they wanted to upgrade the house. The workers promised to help, and the house was crossed off the list of buildings to be demolished. The story describes the revitalization of a decaying building in a gentle, playful way and ends with the recognition, not the rejection, of an active community.
The eviction of the autonomous Rog factory took place in the morning hours of January 19, 2021.
